Chasing an LED Truck Across the Bay Area: The AI Doc x Focus Features Promotion
JY Studio followed a Focus Features LED truck across the San Francisco Bay Area as it promoted "The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist" — stopping at Anthropic, Google, Meta, OpenAI, and Stanford University. Here's what it was like documenting guerrilla marketing at the doorstep of AI.

Spent the day chasing an LED truck across the Bay Area for the promotion of "THE AI DOC: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist" by Focus Features. From Anthropic to Google, Meta, OpenAI, and Stanford University — it was a unique way to see how AI conversations are happening right outside the companies shaping it.
AI Questions on Wheels
The concept was bold and simple: a mobile LED billboard truck displaying provocative questions about artificial intelligence — "Will AI take all our jobs?" "Is AI the end or a new beginning?" — and driving it directly past the headquarters of the companies building these technologies. It's guerrilla marketing at its best, and the kind of project that makes for compelling visual storytelling.

"The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist" is a Focus Features film that explores the impact of artificial intelligence on society — the fears, the possibilities, and the very human conversations happening around a technology that's moving faster than most of us can keep up with.
Five Stops, Five Perspectives
The truck made stops at five of the most significant names in the AI landscape. Each location told a different visual story — the LED messaging hitting differently depending on whether it was parked outside a research lab, a social media giant, or a university campus.

The Route
Anthropic
The first stop — an AI safety company building Claude, with the LED truck's questions about AI's future taking on extra weight right at their front door.
Parked near the Google campus in Mountain View, where some of the most foundational AI research in history has taken place.
Meta
At Meta's headquarters, the truck's AI messaging sat alongside a company investing billions in AI across its platforms.
OpenAI
Outside OpenAI's San Francisco office — the company that brought AI into mainstream conversation with ChatGPT.
Stanford University
The final academic stop in Palo Alto, where AI research and ethics are taught to the next generation of builders.
Documenting Guerrilla Marketing in Motion
Photographing a moving LED truck across multiple locations in a single day is a different kind of challenge. Unlike a static event where you set up and wait for moments to come to you, this required constantly repositioning, anticipating the truck's movements, and finding angles that placed the LED messaging in context with each iconic location.

The best shots came from the juxtaposition — a glowing LED screen asking "Will AI take all our jobs?" parked right outside the companies whose answer to that question will shape our future. Seeing these questions moving through the spaces where AI is actively being built made the conversation feel a bit more real.
Where Do You Stand?
What made this project memorable wasn't just the visuals — it was the questions the truck was asking. "Is AI the end or a new beginning?" is the kind of question that hits differently when you're standing outside the offices where that future is being written. Whether you're an optimist, a cautious observer, or somewhere in between, the conversation around AI's role in society isn't slowing down.
"Seeing questions like "Will AI take all our jobs?" and "Is AI the end or a new beginning?" moving through these spaces made it feel a bit more real."
